Seaport Village San Diego, Where Magical Entertainment Rules

Seaport Village Sign.jpeg

Seaport Village San Diego is a world filled with wonders that will entertain and delight those of all ages. This was one of the attractions that I visit often with my family as this seaside oasis always became the highlight of our trip.

We were pleased to discover that Seaport Village San Diego is one of the main stops currently featured on many of the historic city tours. The trolley tour around the town gave us the chance to see a wide number of special San Diego landmarks that are in the Old Town community.

Then at the corner of Pacific Highway and Harbor Drive you have the chance to exit the trolley and discover the magic of Seaport Village. You do not have to travel very far to experience a variety of unique adventures when you are strolling through San Diego's Seaport Village.

Seaport Village San Diego Entertainment

There are approximately 4 miles of walkways that comprise the Seaport Village community and the landscape is filled with trees, paths and all types of entertainment for guests to enjoy. The talented action takes place on stage as well as many impromptu gatherings outdoors.

Daily entertainment is always on tap including dancers, live stage shows, bands and solo performance artists. No matter what type of entertainment you might prefer there is sure to be a show scheduled that you will want to watch.

I was especially impressed that there is such a variety of acts and events that are offered on a daily basis. There are dozens of eclectic shops where you can buy everything from toys and clothing to kitschy souvenirs.

Things To Do At Seaport Village

  • Carriage Rides - Everywhere we looked there was something different and exciting waiting to be discovered. There are carriage rides that give you a leisurely tour of the Harbor area. The Cinderella Carriage Company has horse drawn carriages that combine elements of fantasy and elegance with a nice dash of history and culture.
  • Face Painting - While the rest of my group enjoyed a ride on the whirling 19th century styled carousel I was content to watch a face painter, named Betty Lovegren. She is an artist with both henna and paints and there always seemed to be a crowd of people gathered around her booth to watch her work her colorful magic with the customers.
  • Carousel Ride - Try your hand at the historic 1895 Looff Carousel, an enchanting ride that boasts a menagerie of 54 hand-carved animals. See if you can keep your sea legs as you whirl around on this vintage masterpiece. And don't forget the old-fashioned arcade, complete with retro games that'll have you feeling like a kid again.
  • Balloon Sculpting - For those who enjoy balloon artistry there is a balloon sculptor in residence at the Seaport Village San Diego site. David Gonsalves creates nearly 100 dazzling images from only air and a few balloons. Don't be afraid to ask for a unique creation. I asked him to try and create a family of balloon mice and he gave me a wonderful balloon sculpture featuring 5 merry little mice and even added a cat for good measure.
  • Listen to Live Music - What's a day at Seaport Village without some good old-fashioned entertainment? Get your groove on with live music performances throughout the year, featuring everything from steel drum bands to mariachi ensembles.
  • Caricatures - Our favorite souvenir of our day at Seaport Village San Diego is the colorful picture of the family which was created by  a local caricature artist.

Food & Refreshments

  • Edgewater Grill - Feeling peckish? Sail over to one of the many eateries that cater to every taste bud, like the Edgewater Grill. They do breakfast all day from 8am - 2pm and for lunch try their scrumptious surf and turf with a side of freshly made flatbread.
  • Mr. Moto Pizza - If you're craving pizza, you're in luck. Mr. Moto Pizza serves up their award winning authentic New York style pizza pie made extra  delicious just for you.
  • Marion's Fish Market - Located at the food court, Marion's serves up some of the freshest seafood infused into their clam chowder, refreshing ceviche, and my favorite, the mouth watering lobster roll.

There are other delicious eateries that will meet your craving needs. Ice cream shops, cafes and elegant restaurants will entice you to stop and enjoy some of their delicious menu items. There are even free samples of many foods available, so be prepared to cast your diet to the wind.

Seaside Serenity at Embarcadero Marina Park

Embarcadero San Diego

Once you've had your fill of excitement, take a leisurely stroll to the adjacent Embarcadero Marina Park for some well-deserved relaxation. Bask in the sunshine on lush green lawns, marvel at the stunning San Diego skyline, and watch the boats bobbing in the harbor.

It's the perfect spot for a picnic, a game of frisbee, or even a siesta by the sea.

For the more energetic souls, rent a bike or a surrey and tour the picturesque waterfront paths, or channel your inner sailor and charter a boat for a scenic harbor cruise. Whatever your pleasure, Embarcadero Marina Park is the cherry on top of a fantastic day at Seaport Village.

For a day of sheer fun and exciting adventures I heartily recommend a trip to Seaport Village San Diego. With its quirky charm, mouth-watering eats, and seaside delights, Seaport Village San Diego is a treasure that's sure to leave you grinning from ear to ear. There is no need to worry about an itinerary because this is a place with non-stop fun for everyone to enjoy.
